O objetivo do presente artigo é oferecer aos educadores um ponto de vista crítico sobre a utilização das recompensas externas como estratégia motivacional. Discute, inicialmente, o conceito de motivação para aprender, diferenciando-o dos conceitos de motivação intrínseca e extrínseca. Indica, depois, as vantagens, desvantagens e condições sob as quais as recompensas podem ser efetivas para estimular a motivação do aluno.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to offer to educators a critical point of view regarding to the use of external rewards as motivational strategy. It relates, firstly, the concept of motivation to learn, differentiating it from the concepts of intrinsec and extrinsec motivation. Then, it indicates the advantages, disadvantages and conditions under which the rewards can be effective to stimulate student’s motivation.
