O monitoramento da variabilidade pluviométrica em certas localidades pode ser efetuado através do emprego de índices climáticos. Essa ferramenta é particularmente imprescindível na região das bacias do rio Mundaú e do rio Paraíba, pois são importantes bacias hidrográficas situadas na região Nordeste do Brasil (NEB). Analisando a variação temporal da precipitação na Bacia do rio Mundaú, no período de 1974 a 1983, verificou-se uma mudança nos padrões de precipitação sendo o “ponto de inflexão” o ano de 1974. Antes disso, no Médio Mundaú (MM) e Alto Mundaú (AM), os anos foram mais secos e após 1974 foram mais úmidos, ocorrendo o contrário no Baixo Mundaú (BM). Já na Bacia do rio Paraíba, foi encontrado um “ponto de inflexão” na distribuição de precipitação na região do Alto Paraíba. Já para as sub-bacias do Médio e Baixo Paraíba, foi verificada semelhança na alternância entre anos secos e chuvosos ao longo da série de IAC (Índice de Anomalia de Chuva). The monitoring of the pluviometric variability in certain localities can be effected through the job of climatic indices. This tool is particularly essential in the region of the basins of the river Mundaú and the river Paraíba, therefore they are important situated hidrografic basins in region Northeast of Brazil (NEB). Analyzing the temporal variation of the precipitation in the Basin of the river Mundaú, in the period of 1974 the 1983, a change in the precipitation standards was verified being the “point of inflection” the year of 1974. Before this, in the Médio Mundaú (MM) and Alto Mundaú (AM), the years had been drier and after 1974 had been more humid occurring the opposite in Baixo Mundaú (BM). Already in the Basin of the river Paraíba, a “point of inflection” in the precipitation distribution was found in the region of the Alto Paraíba. Already for the sub-basins of the Médio and Baixo Paraíba, similarity in the alternation between dry and rainy years throughout the RAI (rainfall anomaly index) series was verified.
