Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo a determinação de metais pesados nas águas do Açude Velho do município de Campina Grande – PB. A determinação das concentrações foi relacionada à legislação ambiental (357/2005 CONAMA). A água coletada foi analisada pelo método da espectrofotometria de absorção atômica. Os resultados apresentaram a existência de cádmio e cobre em concentrações inferiores às determinadas pelo CONAMA. Pode-se concluir que, mesmo estando em baixos teores, os metais cobre e cádmio, apresentam perigo potencial ao ambiente visto que estes têm a capacidade de ampliação nas relações tróficas e persistem no ambiente sem sofrer alterações.

This research aimed at the determination of heavy metals in water from the reservoir of the Old city of Campina Grande - PB. The determination of concentrations was related to environmental legislation (357/2005 CONAMA). The collected water was analyzed by the method of atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results showed the existence of cadmium and copper at concentrations below those determined by CONAMA. It can be concluded that, although at low levels, the metals copper and cadmium, present potential hazard to the environment because they have the ability to increase the trophic relationships and persist in the environment without modification.
